Multi-Stakeholder Consultation

Mumbai First, in collaboration with HRIDAY, the Healthy India Alliance, and the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) – JSW Centre for Climate Change & Health, organised a multi-stakeholder consultation in Mumbai on 4 August 2026 on the impact of extreme heat on Cardiovascular–Kidney–Metabolic Diseases (CKMDs). The consultation brought together perspectives from public health, climate action, government, urban governance, civil society and community stakeholders to examine.

Maharashtra’s emerging heat-related health risks and the preparedness of existing health systems and Heat Action Plans. The consultation sought to move beyond identifying risks towards developing practical, state-specific and context-responsive policy and implementation pathways. A key component of the consultation was the co-development of priority actions for a Maharashtra Heat and CKMD Roadmap.

Participants worked across three thematic groups focusing on Health Systems and Service Delivery; Climate Governance, Urban Systems and Local Government Action; and Community Engagement, Civil Society Action and Lived Experience Perspectives. The recommendations emerging from the working groups were subsequently synthesized through a joint discussion, with attention to identifying system-level bottlenecks, enabling factors and actionable interventions.

The consultation therefore served as a platform for connecting evidence with implementation and bringing different institutional perspectives into a common policy conversation.
